Dr Ahmed moved to the UK from Cairo after completing his basic surgical training in 1994 where he obtained Master degree in Surgery. While in the UK, he did extensive specialist training in Surgery which he completed in 2001. During this period, he obtained Doctorate in Surgery, Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK, and Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery from Louis Pasteur University, France.
In December 2004, Dr Ahmed invented a new operation for weight loss surgery and published the longer term results in the Obesity Surgery Journal in 2016. Additionally, he is a pioneer in Laparoscopic Surgery and has been receiving tertiary referrals for complex stomach and esophageal disease from other surgeons in the country.
Dr Ahmed possesses a real passion for patient safety and outcomes. He is an international lead in areas of enhanced recovery and has developed many protocols and inventions to enhance the outcomes after esophageal and stomach surgery. He has also published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and was invited to many international conferences to give lectures on his innovative techniques.
